A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT TAR BARREL BREWERY & DISTILLERY

Although not opened until 2020, Tar Barrel Brewery & Distillery's background is a fantastic illustration of the evolution of craft beer over the previous decade.
In 2008, after Hawthorn's first Grand Final victory in a long time, a group of friends made a jubilant pledge to open a brewery on the Mornington Peninsula. That promise was fulfilled in 2010. Matt Bebe, a lifelong Peninsula resident and one of the brewery's co-founders, oversaw operations. In charge of guiding the brew was Andrew Gow, or AG, a seasoned professional who had worked in the industry for a long time prior to joining the Mornington team.
During the course of the next few years, the brewery expanded significantly, appearing in recognisable retail locations across the country, receiving accolades from critics, expanding into a second nearby location, and achieving national distribution.
No matter where the brewery's beers were sold, the original location at 72 Watt Road remained the best place to sample them and see the brewery where they were created. Like many brewpubs, it was here that the selection of beers was the broadest and freshest, and the accompanying wood-fired pizzas, first-rate beer garden, and regular live performances all contributed to making it a home for thirsty Peninsula residents and tourists eager to try local beers.
